Cloud Architect

Cloud Infrastructure Architect – Salary:  £80,000 + 15% bonus. London EC2

(Sponsorship available to candidates already living in the UK)

Global research and analytics company is looking to recruit an entry level Cloud Architect to support a portfolio of Products within the organisation.

You will be responsible for supporting development, SRE and Dev-Ops teams, in developing products that support the growth of researchers globally.  There are a large quantity of migrations from traditional services to microservices applications so a strong understanding of AWS architecture is essential specifically around Kubernetes.

The ideal candidate will be hands and can work with DevOps teams to build out potential proof of concepts to reference architects or implementation.  Linux background preferred and experience of engaging with Big Data teams useful. 

This role would be ideal for someone with 5 years Software Development skills that understands the process of developing production ready code and wants to transition into an Architect role.

You will be part of the Architecture team, reporting to the Lead Infrastructure Architect for the company, and you will be working on ongoing development, will contribute to roadmaps, introduce new technologies, and evangelize strategic direction. A combination of strong communication skills and strategic thinking, combined with hands on ability to lead and execute is a must.  

Key Responsibilities:
• Establish and contribute to the architecture, technology, and business roadmaps for Science and Research Portfolio. 
• Support the transition from traditional dev-ops models to SRE.  

•Support the transition of traditional EC2 workloads to Kubernetes and microservice architectures. 

• Help define and deliver architecture support for the Paved Road – transitioning teams to platform-based capabilities delivered consistently across the portfolio. 

• In depth understanding of Public Cloud architectures, to deliver consistent, highly available, Solutions delivered by highly technical development teams. 
• Provide architecture and design for large development or infrastructure engineering efforts.  
• As needed, lead and coach development and devops teams to realize the direction. 

•Be hands on – provide code derived proof of concepts or scaffolds with engineering teams for reference architectures or best practices. 
• Provide mentoring, consultancy, leadership, and promotion of engineering and architecture best practices.  
• Evaluate new technologies and acquisition candidates as required. 
• Introduce/train teams on new technology. 
• Act as a conduit between Architecture and the development/dev ops teams. 
• Work across/with architects from different organizations in and outside the organisation. 
• Assist in the development of comprehensive information security procedures and practices and deployment of a detailed security audit.  
• Respond to enterprise security issues, designing and implementing solutions to respond to security incidents. 
• Problem-solve, involving leading teams in identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary to effectively troubleshoot/diagnose complex project issues.  
• Extract/translate findings into alternatives/solutions, identifying risks/impacts and schedule adjustments to facilitate management decision-making.  
• Drive technical direction and architecture evolution via reviews and on-floor leadership. 
• Proactively monitor new development to discover subsystems or components that should be evolved into shared services and capabilities   
• Proactively research, monitor, learn, and assess industry/technology advancements and continually build alliances to explore ways to leverage and advance company technology. 

Skills Required:

• 5 years software development skills, looking to move into Architecture.

• In depth (preferably certification) knowledge in Public Cloud Services. 

• Detailed understanding of Container SDLC workflows and infrastructure, specifically Kubernetes. 

• Detailed understanding of dev-ops methodologies, such as SRE. 

• Detailed understanding of micro-service architectures. 

• Ability to define architectures for compliance workloads, like GDPR, PCI, SOX. 

• In depth (preferably certification) knowledge in Public Cloud Services. 

• Detailed understanding of Container SDLC workflows and infrastructure, specifically Kubernetes. 

• Excellent problem-solving experience involving leading teams in identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary to effectively troubleshoot/diagnose complex project issues. 

• Some experience in architectural design, experience of architectural governance. 

• Solid working knowledge with multiple distributed system architectures and patterns, such as SOA, micro-services, REST. 

• Experience working with one or more big data technologies such as HADOOP, Spark, and other big data technologies 

• Experience with a plurality of the operating systems: AWS, Windows, Linux 

• Extensive experience in multiple programming language(s) such as Java, Node.js, Scala, C#, terraform, Go, python and scripting languages. 

• Advanced organization/project planning, time management, and change management skills across multiple functional groups and departments, and advanced delegation skills involving prioritizing and reprioritizing projects and managing projects of various size and complexity. 

• Innovative and solutions-oriented in new technologies, security, and infrastructure

Salary: £95,000 p.a. + 15%
