Deputy Editor, Gastroenterology & Hepatology

Our client is an established medical publisher and they are seeking a Senior Editor to work on their Gastroenterology & Hepatology publication.

Your prime responsibility will be to assist in all aspects of the organisation and preparation of this Gastroenterology & Hepatology publication which is both online and has 12 issues per year in print.

Main Activities and Responsibilities

  •  Management – deputise for the Editor in their absence.
  • Content strategy – assist the Editor with decisions on which new submissions should be considered for publication, and help the Editor develop editorial strategy.
  • Content delivery – assist the Editor with timely production of 48 Articles a year, linked Comments and Correspondence, and Editorial. Commission Comment and Review content as necessary. Responsibility for timely production of a minimum of 24 Review papers a year. News and Editorial writing, sub-editing, proof checking, and cross-reading.
  • Peer review – organise peer review of articles and other written material, and negotiating with authors.
  • Collaboration with specialty community – develop and maintain links with the gastroenterology and hepatology community to solicit high-quality research, especially clinical trials, for the journal.
  • Collaboration with subject specialists to assist with journal positioning – develop and maintain links with the rheumatology community to solicit high-quality research, especially clinical trials, for the journal.
  • Collaboration with subject specialists to assist with journal positioning – attendance of conferences and other events, to represent the journal, to identify suitable topics and authors, and to keep up-to-date with current developments in gastroenterology and hepatology.

Functional and Technical Competencies

  • Post-doc research experience or clinical experience in a relevant field.
  • Substantial editorial experience, at Senior Editor level, with a good understanding of all aspects of the editorial process, journal production, and of running an editorial team.
  • PhD, MD, or other higher degree in a directly relevant discipline.

Salary: to £55,000 p.a.
