Principal Software Developer – Data Platform

Salary: £100,000 p.a. + 15% bonus + benefits

Location: London

Global analytics company requires Principal Software Developer to work on their Data Platform which harvests data from the company`s numerous data streams, identifying researchers and artifacts in disparate systems, and linking them together into coherent entities. The consolidated data they produce enables their knowledge graph and recommendation systems to derive higher-level insights and deliver value to the research community.

We`re looking for an innovative, passionate developer to work as part of their platform tribe, helping to make our global research data sing. You will develop applications leveraging their unique collection of scientific data, and work on products throughout the company. 

As a Principal Software Developer you will be:

  • Passionate about Agile, XP, and Test-Driven Development
  • Designing, prototyping, and implementing robust big-data streaming applications using best-practice agile development processes
  • Working with cutting-edge technologies such as Java and Clojure, streaming frameworks such as Kafka and Spark
  • Building cloud infrastructure in AWS to host and monitor the applications, automating common tasks mercilessly 
  • Collaborating as part of a tight-knit, agile, quality-focused team to deliver tangible value to our customers 

Our requirements:

  • A passionate software engineer with an extensive background in commercial software engineering, delivering server-side applications
  • Excellent programming skills on the JVM, with experience of building microservices or distributed systems with either Java, Clojure, or Scala
  • Hobby or commercial experience in Functional Programming
  • An advocate of agile practices for rapid development of quality software, such as CI, TDD, and continuous deployment 
  • Experience with working on a mixed-discipline team, where Cloud Infrastructure specialists, QE, and Developers work side-by-side
  • Comfortable learning new technologies, languages and tools on the job, to ensure that the product is not left behind in a rapidly evolving ecosystem
  • A positive, collaborative mindset and a desire to deliver real business value to our customers
  • Experience of or willingness to work as part of a collaborative DevOps enabled team

Salary: £100,000 to £115,000 p.a.
