Global research company requires Senior Software Engineer to join an engineering team that develops and maintains our cloud and platform services in order to make a difference to product delivery and customer outcomes?

They are a growing, global team of 2000 entrepreneurial digital technologists working in small collaborative Agile teams, with the freedom to leverage the latest technologies to build digital solutions. They create products that help scientists make breakthroughs and health professionals impact lives.

As a Software Engineer working in our enterprise platform team, you will be responsible for developing and supporting features across our internal platforms. We have a mission to improve the developer experience, enabling product teams to deliver quality software to customers easily and quickly.


  • Maintaining and improving the company’s platform services within agreed reliability objectives whilst enabling the fast flow of feature updates.
  • Supporting the on-boarding of products onto the platform, and by working collaborative with the wider team identify opportunities to improve.
  • Building and maintaining ‘paved road’ tools and modules which allows product delivery teams to move at pace.
  • Championing the reliability, scalability, performance, and security posture of production services.
  • Providing consultancy across the technology group, including practical guidance in SLOs, observability, toil reduction, chaos engineering & managing load.
  • Debugging production issues across all levels of the platform stack. Participate in an on-call rotation and drive a blameless culture to prevent incidents from ever happening.

  • Enjoy developing relationships with engineering teams and value collaboration and knowledge sharing to build technical expertise and community.
  • Have a passion for creating high quality, testable code using modern languages like Python, Java, Go or JS.
  • Well versed in agile practices such as TDD, pair programming, continuous integration, and automated testing. You aim to make the deployment process as boring as possible.
  • Know how to design distributed systems that scale using AWS and Kubernetes, ensuring applications are highly available and secure.
  • Have a deep understanding of how monitoring tools and observability can help with determine the root cause of performance issues. You can present varying types of data to different audiences.
  • Are happy in moving across the stack – from development to infrastructure operations. Know your way around AWS, Linux, Puppet, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform and Github.

Salary: £80,000 p.a. + 10%
