Editor-in-Chief – Medical Publication

Location:   London EC2

Salary: Negotiable (c£70,000 p.a.)

Our client is an established medical publishers and they areseeking an Editor In Chief to develop and launch an online-only open access specialty journal.

The Editor in Chief must be a subject expert who can shape the journal into a forum for publishing the most relevant and practice-changing research in this multidisciplinary field. The Editor will also manage the day-to-day editorial handling of papers and peer-review and drive the editorial strategy of this medical publication.

Main Activities and Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with other divisions or departments to launch and develop a publication focused on remaining healthy for longer.
  • Budgeting and monitoring expenditure and income for the journal; liaising with the finance departments in the UK, USA, and other regional offices to ensure timely payment of invoices.
  • Overall responsibility for the editorial strategy and launch of the publication.
  • Overall responsibility for the content and timely production of 96 online-only articles a year, linked Comments and Correspondence, and Editorial.
  • Commission Comment content as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain links with the general medicine, oncology, diabetes, neurology, rheumatology, general practice, bone health, geriatrics, and infection communities amongst other to solicit high-quality research for the publication.
  • Commission Comment content as necessary.
  • Appoint and liaise with an International Advisory Board.

Functional and Technical Competencies

  • PhD or MD in a directly relevant discipline.
  • Substantial post-doc research experience or clinical experience in a relevant field.
  • Substantial editorial experience, at Editor or other senior level, with a good understanding of all aspects of the editorial process, journal production, and of running an editorial team.
